Accomplishments: A Look Back

1948 –
The West Shore Businessmen’s Association held its first meeting.
·
1948 -
The West Shore Businessmen’s Association formed a Hospital Committee to
advocate for a hospital on the west shore. Holy Spirit Health System was
established in 1963 due to these efforts.

1950 –
The West Shore Businessmen’s Association hosted the first Business &
Industry Night.
·
1956 –
The West Shore Businessmen’s Association changed its name to the West
Shore Chamber of Commerce.

1975 –
The chamber computerized its records.
·
1976 –
The Chamber hosted its first “Meet the Candidates Night.”
·
1979 –
The Chamber helped organize and served as the administrative offices for
the Three Mile Island recovery effort.
·
1983 –
The Chamber moved its office to the current Trindle Road location.
·
1984 -
West Shore Chamber in conjunction with four other area Chambers form the
Capital Region Economic Development Council.
·
1984 -
The Chamber added Mixers to its events calendar to enhance member
networking opportunities.
·
1985 –
The Chamber chartered the West Shore Emergency Medical Service (EMS).
·
1990 -
The first Business Achievement Award was presented to Rocco Ortenzio of
Select Medical Corporation.

1996 –
The Chamber debuted www.wschamber.org.
·
2006 –
The Chamber creates the Inspiring Business Award for members who live
the Chamber’s brand.
·
2008 –
The Chamber emphasizes it’s focus on issue-based forums and seminars.
·
2009 –
The Chamber offered an Electricity Aggregate pool to members to help
mitigate the cost of the PPL rate cap removal.
·
2010 –
Kathleen M. Mangan becomes the Chamber’s first female President & CEO.
