Chamber Timeline of Accomplishments: A Look Back

 

  • 1948 - The first meeting of the West Shore Businessmen’s Association.

  • 1948 - The West Shore Businessmen’s Association forms a Hospital Committee to advocate for a hospital on the west shore; Holy Spirit established in 1963

  • 1950 - Business & Industry Night premiers.

  • 1956 - Name changes to West Shore Chamber of Commerce.

  • 1975 - Chamber records are computerized.

  • 1976 - Chamber hosts first “Meet the Candidates Night.”

  • 1979 - Chamber helps organize and serve as the administrative offices for the Three Mile Island recovery effort.

  • 1983 - Chamber moves to current location on Trindle Road.

  • 1984 - West Shore Chamber and four other area Chambers form the Capital Region Economic Development Council.

  • 1984 - Mixers are added to the Chamber calendar to create additional networking opportunities for members.

  • 1985 -Chamber charters the West Shore Emergency Medical Service.

  • 1990 - The first Business Achievement Award is presented to Rocco Ortenzio, Select Medical Corporation.

  • 1996 - Chamber debuts website at www.wschamber.org.

  • 2006 - Inspiring Business Award debuts.

  • 2008 - Chamber places a focus on issue-based forums and seminars.

  • 2009 - Chamber offers Electricity Aggregate pool to members.
